Results of the WUWM 2012 Board Elections

Board of Director elections took place during the recent World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) annual conference that was held in Berlin, Germany from 22-25 May 2012, hosted by the Berliner Grossmarkt. Held under the theme: “The Green Market: A Profitable Investment”, some 170 food market professionals from 24 countries explored issues such as green building on the wholesale market, sustainable energy concepts, disaster management and insurance strategies. During this event, four Director positions on the WUWM Board were open to election. Those persons successful in being elected were: • Mr Jean-Paul Auguste, Chairman, Groupe Geraud, Paris, France • Ms Jan Lloyd, CEO, Covent Garden Market Authority, London, UK • Mr Zengjun Ma, Chairman, Chinese Agricultural Wholesale Market Association (CAWA), Beijing, China • Mr Timo Taulavuori, Managing Director, City of Helsinki Wholesale Food Market, Finland These persons, with mandates through 2013, now join the remainder of the WUWM Board of Directors which includes: • Mr Torben Flinch, Managing Director, Copenhagen Markets, Denmark (currently WUWM Chairman); • Mr Manuel Estrada-Nora, Chief, International Department, Mercasa, Madrid, Spain (currently WUWM vice-Chairman); • Mr Torsten Berens, Managing Director, Hamburg Market, Germany; • Mr Donald Darnall, Executive Director, Maryland Food Center Authority (MFCA), Baltimore, USA; • Mr Huseyin Eren, Deputy Secretary General, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey; • Mr Michel Escoffier, Secretary General, FFMIN, France; • Mr Grzegorz Hempowicz, President, Poznan Market, Poland; • Mr Alfredo Neme Martínez, Tultitlan Market, México; • Mr Marcel Verbelen, Managing Director, Mabru, Belgium. Staggered elections are held for positions on the WUWM Board of Directors in the spring of each year. The WUWM Board, consisting of a Chairman, vice-Chairman and (a maximum of) 11 Directors is responsible for exercising the power of the WUWM membership in the period between annual meetings, working closely with the WUWM Secretariat in providing any guidance as may be necessary for ensuring the good management of the association. WUWM Board members may also be charged with representing particular world regions in the development of, and/or follow-up of, WUWM matters within that region.
