WUWM 29th Congress Unites Markets the World Over

The 29th WUWM Congress, to be hosted by the Brazilian market association ABRACEN, is to be held in the city of Campinas, Brazil from 23-26 September 2015.
Held under the theme ‘The Environment and the Future of Wholesale Markets’, delegates will discuss issues that include: new scenarios for the food supply chain in the face of climate change; challenges for modernizing wholesale markets in Latin America; wholesale market efficiency and specialisation in the 21st century; value chain integration: production, wholesale and retail; and new food retail distribution models for traditional wholesale markets.

Technical visits will be made to three markets during this event:
The wholesale market of Campinas (CEASA Campinas) which comprises two wholesale market halls of flowers and vegetables. The market is 500 000 m2 in size, with 920 trading companies selling 66 000 tonnes of product per month (US$ 45 million per month). Some 15 000 people enter the market daily.
The wholesale market of Sao Paulo, CEAGESP, which comprises of 13 market halls, moving 4,263 million tonnes of vegetables, flowers and fish (US$ 2.72 billion in 2014). This market in São Paulo is responsible for selling 3.4128 million tonnes of product originating from 19 countries, 22 states and 1,454 municipalities representing a trading volume of US$2.27 billion. It also maintains the largest public warehouses, silos and grain storages of Brazil, in a storage complex geared towards the conservation of agricultural and industrial products.
And on the last day of the event, delegates will visit the Municipal Marketplace in São Paulo (retail market). Situated in the historic downtown of São Paulo, the Municipal Marketplace, popularly known as the Market, is one of the city’s important tourist destinations. Inaugurated in 1933, the building is replete with business and leisure options. With 12,600 m2 of space, the Market is a commercial hub of wholesale and retail, specializing in the marketing of fruits, vegetables, cereals, meats, spices and other food products.
