Love Your Local Market 2016

The global 'Love Your Local Market' (LYLM) campaign is an annual event celebrating wholesale & retail (street or covered) markets. It is held in the month of May, now known as the Month of Markets! LYLM Global is supported & coordinated by the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) since 2014.
Please join with WUWM markets from all over the globe in the biggest markets event ever seen! In 2015 we were more than 2,000 markets (both wholesale and retail) from 16 countries - and we hope to expand that number to more than 3,000 markets in 2016! The theme for LYLM Global in 2016 is: MARKETS – YOUR HEALTHY CHOICE!
There is information on LYLM Global 2016, as well as updates and summaries from member country activities in 2015, for viewing on the new WUWM Facebook Page: ‘Love Your Local Market Global’, as well as on WUWM’s ‘FindAMarket.org’ and ‘wuwm.org’ websites.
The last meeting of the LYLM 2016 Committee Meeting took place 10 March in Brussels, Belgium, hosted by Mabru Wholesale Market. Minutes from that meeting are available from the WUWM website member-only section.
Why should wholesale markets participate?
All retail and wholesale markets can participate in LYLM2016 for free (even non-member markets), and if you are a wholesale market please be aware that you can use LYLM to strengthen the relationship and business between wholesale traders and retail traders, thus ensuring the long term turnover of both kind of markets, as well as their ongoing competitiveness with supermarkets. LYLM can also be used as an in-house celebration of pride, celebrating common life together between our staff, our traders, etc…. If you don’t already know the many ways that wholesale markets can specifically benefit from participating in LYLM, please contact the WUWM Secretariat - and also visit the member-only section of the WUWM website to download a PPT presentation prepared by John Triantafyllis from Athens Central Market which successfully participated in LYLM2015 (along with 11 other wholesale markets in that country).
What are the goals of LYLM?
The LYLM campaign began nationally in the UK in 2011. Due to its success in Britain, the campaign was promoted to other market members within the WUWM, and a first global event coordinated by WUWM was launched in 2014 with a core group of retail markets in various cities of Europe. By 2015 the international campaign had grown to over 2,000 markets participating from 16 countries - both inside and outside of Europe.
The WUWM supports and coordinates the international LYLM campaign, and uses the campaign to help unify wholesale and retail member markets and countries. The main goals of the annual LYLM campaign are:
a. To promote the unique relationship between markets with every kind of people;
b. To promote the general profile and role of wholesale and retail markets nationally, regionally and globally;
c. To support the retail market presence towards decision-makers at all levels of government everywhere, especially the European Commission and associated funding partners;
d. To strengthen the wholesale and retail market position in the local government agenda - both nationally and regionally in Europe.
e. To strengthen the important linkages between wholesale and retail markets in all communities.
