WUWM Congress Press Conference
August 30, 2007

Chinese National Ag-Market Association (CAWA) Chairman, Mr Zenjun Ma and World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) Secretary General, Ms Maria Cavit recently addressed representatives of the Chinese media in advance of the opening of the WUWM 25th Congress. Both speakers highlighted the importance of the occasion, welcoming the support that had been received from the Chinese government and fresh produce sector for this first food market congress ever to take place in China. Ms Cavit also noted the important role of CAWA in helping to ensure the progress and development of food markets within China. "...retail and wholesale markets are vital public services that help ensure communities have access to safe, nutritious food at affordable prices while also helping small businesses and food enterprises compete in a fast-changing world with many environmental and economic challenges" she informed. "Hosting the 25th Congress of the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) in China is one of the many efforts our CAWA colleagues have made to provide the international wholesale market community with important information on the situation of the agricultural market sector in the Chinese economy. Since Chinese agricultural wholesale companies will be vital participants in the future progress and development of international agricultural trade, the information resulting from this congress is not only important now, but also for many years to come."
