New Mercasa President Appointed

The General Council of Mercasa (the Spanish national wholesale market network) on proposal of the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales (SEPI) announced last week the appointment of Ignacio Cruz Roche as successor to Javier de Paz Mancho who resigned as President last December. Mr Cruz Roche previously held the post of General Director of Commercial Politics in the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce. Since 2004 he has been a Member and Vice President of the Board of Mercasa, as well as Vice-President of the Commercial Distribution Department in the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce and the Food Prices Department in the Ministry of Agriculture. Cruz Roche has a PhD in Economic Science and is a Law and Economic Science graduate. He is also a Professor at the Autonoma University of Madrid, where he also has been Director of Finance and Market Research and Vice-Chancellor of International Relations and Planning. He has published 10 books and around 100 articles in specialised magazines in the areas of commercialisation, economy and social protection. He is also, since 1996, a member of the editorial team of the Spanish food industry magazine “Distribucion y Consumo” and has provided consultancy services for UNCTAD-GATT, OMS, the DGV of the UE and several ministries and public entities, as well as companies and associations.
