An international food markets conference was held in Chandigarh, India on 20-21 November 2012. The conference, hosted by the Punjab State Agricultural Board (PSAMB) and the Indian national market association (COSAMB) was the result of an initiative from WUWM members Dr. J.S. Yadav, COO of Premium Farm Fresh Limited and Mr S.S. Randhawa, Managing Director of COSAMB. The event received important support from the Chief Minister of Punjab, alongside backing from the WUWM Board of Directors - keen not only to develop WUWM’s understanding of markets within the country, but also in support of the important developments the market sector is undergoing there. Entitled “WHOLESALE MARKETS - GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INNOVATIONS” the seminar focussed on issues related to new innovations in market planning and design, IT and equipment, wholesale and retail market linkages, as well as the effective management of waste, insurance and disaster on the market. Indian speakers included Dr Sukhpal Singh, Chairperson of the Centre for Management in Agriculture, IIM, Ahmedabad and Dr M.S.Sidhu, Professor-cum-Head of the Department of Economics and Sociology, PAU, Ludhiana. Representatives from WUWM member markets in the UK, Spain, France, Denmark, Holland, China, Korea and Germany spoke on the programme. Copies of those presentations are available for downloading from the WUWM member-only section of this website. A news report published in the Indian Express newspaper is attached to this article.
