The 6th Asia-Pacific Wholesale Markets Conference took place in Beijing from 29 January to 1 February, with the support of the WUWM Asia-Pacific Working Group and the leadership of Zengjun Ma, President of the Chinese Association of Wholesale Markets (CAWA).
This year the 30th anniversary of CAWA was celebrated and a review of the achievements made in China over this period. Awards were granted to those wholesale markets, wholesale market managers, and wholesalers having had remarkable performances or achievements in the past year.
It is remarkable to note that between 1984 and 2014 the number of Chinese food wholesale markets has increased from 862 to 4,400 (with 4,532 wholesale markets in 2012). Over 700 delegates from 25 countries were present during this conference, which included participation from wholesale market managers, wholesalers, farmer organizations, and e-commerce companies as well as ambassadors and commercial counsellors from a number of foreign embassies in Beijing.
In contrast with other countries, in China there are many wholesale markets specialized by the kind of products sold, including for example, frozen food, grain and oil, seafood, fruit and vegetables wholesale markets.
Along with the programme of technical presentations made by both Chinese national and international delegates, a trade exhibition of food products was also held.
