World Health Day 2015 Launch from Rungis Market
March 26, 2015
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has decided to launch World Health Day 2015 on the Rungis Market in Paris on 7 April.
The theme for this year’s event is Food Safety. Unsafe food is linked to the deaths of an estimated 2 million people annually. With an increasingly globalized food supply new threats are constantly emerging. Food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances is responsible for more than 200 diseases, ranging from diarrhoea to cancers. The WHO message is: Be informed to ensure that the food on your plate is safe to eat!
Mr Stéphane Layani, Chairman of SEMMARIS, the management body of Rungis Market, notes:
“The Rungis market is a powerful tool, the physical infrastructure is constantly renovating to adapt to increasingly sophisticated health standards - which is an investment in the market of some 30 million euros annually.” He adds:
“We welcome all public control services including veterinary services, market news services and customs services on to our market”.
