Mercabarna will host the Spring WUWM Conference in 2018

Mercabarna in Spain will host the Spring WUWM Conference in 2018. The event will be held from 16 to 18 April 2018, within the framework of the Alimentaria Food Fair.
The Councilor for Trade and Markets of Barcelona City Council and President of Mercabarna, Montserrat Ballarín, explained the objective for making it coincide with these 2 events: "In this way Barcelona will become for a week in the world food capital, with the participation of representatives of the entire value chain from all over the world. "
The Barcelona bid has the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Fira de Barcelona.
The host agreement was signed in Rome during the WUWM Conference on 19 May between Dr Donald J. Darnall, WUWM Chairman, and Mr Josep Tejedo, Mercabarna's General Manager.
The event will host some 300 delegates, including representatives and businessmen from the world's top food markets from some 30 countries.
Under the theme "Markets of the Future: Responsible and Efficient", the congress will focus on the social responsibility of markets towards society and the environment. In this sense discussion will be held about food waste, markets as agents generating employment, the importance of education of children in eating habits, excellence in waste management, energy efficiency, efficient mobility ..
