Barcelona Welcomes the World of Market Management

Next April, Mercabarna will be the host of the Conference of the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM). The event will gather representatives from the most relevant retail and wholesale markets and the fresh food and flower industry from all over the world.
The event has been planned to overlap with the international biannual “ALIMENTARIA” and “HOSTELCO” Trade Fairs, which will take place in Barcelona from April 16-19, 2018. Delegates will have the opportunity to visit these fairs. Alimentaria is a leading international event for all professionals in the food, drinks and food service sector. It is not to be missed if you wish to learn more about innovation, the latest trends and the internationalization of the sector. Hostelco is one of the biggest fair trades in the restaurant & catering sector, with 42,000 visitors. In addition to forums specializing in innovation, gastronomy and wines, the show also offers an attractive range of exhibiting companies, with roughly 4,000 firms representing key markets of the food industry and consumer trends.
The overall theme of the conference is: Responsible and Efficient Markets, issues regarding the role markets play as backbones of their respective societies and best solutions in the areas of waste management, energy efficiency, mobility and digitalization will be discussed.
During the plenary sessions the main conclusions of the study prepared by Kantar Worldpannel ‘Keys to adapting markets to the demands of the new consumer of fresh products from Europe, USA, and Asia’ will be presented. The study will identify, according to each geographical area, the opportunities and threats to the food sector with regards to the consumer’s new purchase habits, and will identify the strategies to follow in order to successfully respond to the said trends.
