Obituary Rolf Brauer
June 14, 2018
The members and board of the GFI Association of German Fresh Food Markets mourn the death of Rolf Brauer.
Rolf Brauer, for many years managing director of Berlin Wholesale Market, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 6 June 2018 at the age of 77. Our deepest sympathy is with his family at this difficult time.
For more than 30 years Rolf Brauer was instrumental in assuring the success and stability of Berlin Wholesale Market until his retirement in 2005. Rolf Brauer guided the “Belly of Berlin” through many a difficult period; he was an imaginative, pragmatic, focussed and approachable manager who treated everyone with due respect.
Rolf Brauer’s partners in the fresh food trade were full of admiration for the tireless way in which he worked to benefit every wholesale market in Germany, both at national and international level. He was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of our national marketing association and a founder member of the GFI in 2000. By this time he had already given many years of invaluable service within the World Union of Wholesale Markets.
We shall always remember Rolf Brauer as a dedicated and far-sighted friend and colleague. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
