Historical record in the sales of foodstuff in the Mercas Network in 2019

The sales volume grew by 12.8% and reached 8.8 million tons, with a value of 16,600 million euros
The commercial activity of the wholesale companies that operate in the Mercas Network generated a sales volume of 8.8 million tons of food, with a value of more than 16,6 billion euros, representing 1.4% of national GDP.
More than 3,000 companies are located in the Mercas Network. The commercial activity in the Mercas Network yields an average of 100,000 commercial transactions every day, reaching approximately 30 million people.
By groups of products, sales of fruits and vegetables in 2019 amounted to 6.9 million tons, 10.6% more than in 2018. Direct sales by farmers in the Mercas reached 80,000 tons, mostly vegetables and potatoes. As for fish and seafood, total sales in 2019 exceeded 785,000 tons of which 60% were fresh products and 40% frozen and prepared fish. Meat sector sold more than 880,000 tons.
78% of fruits and vegetables, 80% of meats and 70% of the fish and seafood sold in the Mercas Network are of national origin, thus favoring trade channels for agricultural production, livestock and fisheries in Spain.
Regarding market share with respect to national demand, the volumes traded in the Mercas Network represent 65% of the total fruits and vegetables consumed in Spain, 55% of fish and seafood and 45% of meats.
