Love Your Local Market Campaign 2022

April 27, 2022

The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) is proud to announce that the Love Your Local Market (LYLM) 2022 will take place during the month of May.

This year, LYLM is going to be celebrated in more than 3000 fresh food street markets, often called “farmers’ markets”, all over the world! The theme of this year is “I support my local market = I support local production and short-circuits!”.

An official launching event will take place on May 13th and 14th in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Love Your Local Market campaign is aimed to empower and give visibility to fresh food street markets, key actors to promote healthy food environments at local level. Fresh food markets are at the core of sustainable food environments. Often municipal, they are one of the best urban food policies of cities to foster healthy diets and ensure availability to a large variety of fresh produce to citizens , making fresh and healthy diets the easiest one to choose. The ambition of this campaign is to attract and engage as many people as possible to shop in fresh food street markets and reinforce their work to ensure and promote healthy and accessible diets.

Many events (concerts, cooking classes, activities for kids, etc..) will take place during the month of May in several cities around the world.

We invite you and your organization to participate and join the LYLM campaign, celebrating together the importance of having access to , healthy diets and ensure food security.

The launch event will be coordinated by the Sociedade Instaladora De Mercados Abastecedores, S.A (SIMAB), the public company in charge of Portugal’s wholesale markets, in collaboration with the Portuguese government and local municipalities. We welcome you all to join this campaign: celebrate markets and healthy food systems with us!
