Every year, under the banner of Love Your Local Market (LYLM), thousands of retail and wholesale markets choose to come together to celebrate their continued modernity and presence in the hearts of cities by offering the local populations diverse and high-quality healthy food from the best farms and local producers.

These markets are the true operational short circuits, standing in contrast to the increasingly industrialized offerings of large-scale retailers. More than 3,000 retail markets across Europe and the world, from the Americas to China, will offer animations, gastronomic demonstrations, and promotions during the month of May 2023 to celebrate their ongoing success.

French and German markets unions J’aime mon Marché and GFI Deutsche Frischemärkte e.V., with LYLM and World Union of Wholesale Markets (WYWM) support, are organizing a special celebration this year where representatives from the most important markets will come together for a convivial event in a regional capital. This year’s bi-national event between France and Germany will take place on May 12 in Kehl and May 13 in Strasbourg.

On this occasion, WUWM will also hold a Board of Directors meeting at the Marché-Gare in Strasbourg and celebrate the first spring of its new Market Hall.

Program

Friday, May 12
• 10am – Visit to the Kehl market
• 11am – Welcome of the international delegation by the mayor on the market place
• 12pm – Photo on the bridge with Strasbourg and Kehl officials
• 7pm – Cocktail dinner at the Marché-Gare in Strasbourg (by invitation only)

Saturday, May 13
• 9am – Reception of the international delegation at Strasbourg City Hall
• 10am – Visit to the organic market at the former customs house
• 11am – Visit to the covered market in Neudorf
