The World Union of Wholesale Markets is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2023. This report highlights a year filled with significant achievements, transformative changes, and strengthened global partnerships.

In his foreword, WUWM Chairman, Mr. Stéphane Layani, reflects on the year’s pivotal moments, including the successful WUWM Cancun Conference. Held under the theme “The Future of Food Markets: Modernizing Wholesale and Retail Markets to Meet Customer Expectations by 2030,” the conference gathered over 400 delegates and resulted in actionable initiatives such as the implementation of online ordering systems and enhanced digital traceability tools for consumers.

2023 also marked a transition in leadership with the appointment of Ms. Valérie Vion as General Secretary, reinforcing our commitment to effective governance and strategic direction.

Throughout the year, WUWM facilitated valuable exchanges of best practices among members from various countries, including Germany, China, and Australia. The launch of the Love Your Local Market campaign further underscored our dedication to promoting the importance of retail markets in our communities.

Additionally, we renewed our Memorandum of Understanding with the FAO to combat food loss and waste and celebrated our recognition with the Gourmand Award 2023 for the best free publication.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce future events, including our participation in Fruit Logistica 2024 in Berlin and the first WUWM conference in Southeast Asia in May. We also have conference planned for Rimini in October 2024, continuing our mission to connect and empower wholesale markets globally.
